From 1930 at Leningrad Branch, Peat Institute. From 1937 with Gasification Commission, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. 1933-1935 and from 1942 taught at Moscow Chemical Technol Institute.
From 1948 director, Institute of Combustible Minerals, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. Specialized in gasification, including subterranean gasification and thermal cracking of solid fuels. Did research on coal gasification under a pressure of 100 athmospheres.
Devised a method of producing urban gas by the catalytic methane processing of water gas. Studied the comprehensive power and chemical utilization of fuels. Helped develop and incorporate a method for improving the productivity of coke-chemical plants.
