1902 graduate Moscow University.
From 1902 at Moscow University. From 1908 associate professor, Chair of Zoology, Warsaw University. 1920-1930 associate, Zoological Museum, 1930-1935 associate, Zoological Institute, from 1935 associate, Paleontological Institute, USSR Academy of Sciences.
Co-founder, paleoentomology. From his paleoentomological studies and research on the morphology of insect wings he developed a general taxonomy of insects, dividing them into ancient-winged and new-winged varieties. Made the First review of Yura and Perm’ insect fauna in the USSR.
Collated material on deposits of fossile insects and their historical development in connection with the Earth’s geological past. Also worked on the taxonomy, morphology, ecology and zoogeography of caddis flies and amphipods.
