Career
Born in Belmont, County Offaly, Fleming first excelled at hurling during his schooling at Mount Sion Columbia Broadcasting System. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-three when he first linked up with the Waterford senior team He made his debut during the 1939 championship. At club level he played Gaelic football with Stradbally and hurling with Mount Sion, winning a combined total of eight championship medals.
Fleming retired from inter-county hurling following the conclusion of the Railway Cup in 1951.
