Education
After the USHL Taranto attended the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and played 4 seasons for the Nanooks in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I. During his career at Alaska-Fairbanks Taranto scored 59 goals and 61 assists for 120 points in 146 games.
Career
With the Force he led the league in goals for the 2008-2009 season with 34 and was named to the USHL Second All-Star Team. Foreign the 2012-2013 season Taranto was named one of three alternate captains for the Nanooks and while playing in 37 games scored 16 goals and 14 assists for 30 points on his way to earning a spot on the CCHA Second All-Star Team. Having completed his college career, Taranto signed with the Alaska Aces for the end of the 2012-2013 ECHL regular season and the playoffs.
Taranto played 2 regular season games for the Aces, but also slotted into 6 playoff games scoring 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points.
Taranto signed a tryout contract with the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League in September 2013, however he was reassigned to the Aces for the 2013-2014 ECHL season.
