She served as Mayor of Chapinero from 2005 to 2008. She was elected to the city council of Bogotá in 2011. In 2014 she was elected to the Chamber of Representatives of Colombia as a Green Party candidate in Bogotá, becoming the country"s first out LGBT legislator at the national level
Lozano, who is an out lesbian and has been a LGBT rights activist, co-founded the Independent Democratic Pole party.
