Career
Payne was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. She began indoor climbing at the age of 11 and competed in a number of junior sports climbing competitions. In the years 2004-2010, Payne completed the first female ascent of 17 bouldering problems graded v10-v12, leading up to becoming the first female to complete a confirmed v13.
