Admitted barrister and attorney, 1874. Elected to House of Assembly, North.S., 1878 and 18S2. Speaker of Nova Scotia Legislature, 1SS3-86, and in 1886 became member of the Fielding Ministry.
Resigned, March 1887, and ran against Sir John Thompson, Minister of Justice for House of Commons, Canada.
Defeated by 40 votes. Elected House of Assembly, 1887, and became member of Government.
Resigned, 1891, and again unsuccessfully opposed Sir John Thompson. Appointed member, Legislative.
Council of Nova Scotia, 1892.
Resigned, 1895, and elected for House of Assembly, 1895. Member of the Murray Ministry, 1896. Re-elected 1897 and 1901.
Judge of the County Court for one of the Judicial Districts of the Province, 1902.
