Chave worked as a faculty member at Parsons School of Design in 1980-1981. Then she worked as an assistant Professor at Harvard University in 1988-91.
She was also a Visiting Associate Professor at Hunter College. She was an associate Professor at Queens College and adjunct faculty in 1993-1996.
Chave worked as a lecturer at Yale University in 1992-1993. She worked as a Professor of Art Department at Queens College and as a Doctor of Philosophy at Program in Art History, The Graduate School and University Center, City University of New York during the years 1997- 2015.
