Career
Lapushchenkova began competing occasionally on the International Tennis Federation women"s circuit in October 2002, shortly before her sixteenth birthday. She started to compete regularly early in 2005, enjoying steady improvements over the following two years. And after at first seeming to reach a plateau around World Number.
300 in the first half of 2007, she had risen rapidly to a career high of World Number.
140 by 14 January 2008. Although she has so far struggled to qualify for major Women's Tennis Association Tour main draws, she has beaten several Top 100-calibre players at lesser events and in qualifying rounds for Women's Tennis Association events.
