Anna VOLKOVA, USSR Veterinarian. Microbiologist; Professor 1951; full member and Academy Secretary,Department of Biological Science, Kirghizia Academy of Sciences, since 1954; Hon Science Worker of Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic since 1947. Stalin Prize, 1947. Member, Communist Party, since 1943.


VOLKOVA, Anna was born in 1902.


1924 graduated Saratov Veterinary Institute.


Expert in infectious diseases of sheep. In collaboration with S. Ilinov developed a method of bacteriological diagnosis of brucellosis by lacteal gland puncture and established presence of anaerobic dysentery of lambs in Kirghizia. Also developed a method of biological differential diagnosis of causative agent of this disease and suggested an active serum against the infection.

Deputy, USSR Supreme Soviet of 1950 convocation. 1924-1930 veterinary surgeon. 1930-1933 Head, Veterinary Research Section, Katta-Kurgan Experimental AstrakhanBreeding Station.

1933-1938 associate, Uzbek Veterinary Research Institute. 1938-1942 associate, 1942-1944 Director, Kirghizia Experimental Veterinary Research Station. 1947-1955 Head, Chair of Special Pathology and Therapy, Kirghizia Agriculture Institute.

1957-1960 V.-President, Kirghizia Academy of Sciences.
