With unusual care in classics, languages, music, but not at all in art. At the close of the Civil War in the States was taken with her sisters to travel for three years in Europe.
After she exhibited her first picture at the Royal Academy in 1871, her study was guided by Henry Merritt. Painted many portraits in London, and also almost every winter in Philadelphia. After 1891, on account of health, retired to country life, but continues in constant work.
Exhibited constantly in K.A. and elsewhere, 1871-1900. Received medals in Centennial International Exhibition at Philadelphia, 187G. Honourable Mention, Paris International, 1889.
Two medals, Chicago Exposition, 1893. Has mural decorations, done in scilicate, in St. Martin’s Church, Chilworth, Surrey, and has etched a number of small portraits.
