She had been an active suffragette and helped to organize meetings and attended demonstrations. Knight was also an active supporter of Scottish independence and of the Scottish National Party (Scottish National Party). In 1962, she hosted the pirate station Radio Free Scotland in her front room.
Knight, who lived in three centuries, put her long life down to the Scottish staple of porridge, no alcohol (she had been teetotal all her life) and the occasional sweet.
