She is known for her paintings of woman in drapings. Markus is an autodidact with a realistic style. Her first exposition was in 1981, her own atelier and exposition space was openened in 1995.
In 2003 a book with a collection of her paintings was released because of her 25-year anniversary as a painter.
Markus has a distinctive clothing style. On November 6, 2009 it was announced that Markus was selected as Dutch artist of the year.
