Career

1925-1940 engaged in illegal Communist activity in Lithuania Democratic Republic and several times arrested. 1940, after Soviet occupation of Lithuania Republic, elected Deputy to National Sejm. 1941-1952 candidate member of the Central Committee, Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

Deputy, USSR Supreme Soviet of 1937, 1946, 1950, 1954 and 1958 convocation. Member, Commission for Foreign Affairs, USSR Supreme Soviet. Deputy and Presidium member, Lithuania Supreme Soviet of 1938, 1947, 1951, 1955 and 1959 convocation.

1921-1925 with Foreign Bureau of Central Committee, Communist Party Lithuania, in USSR. 1926-1936 Secretary, 1936-1940 First Secretary, Central Committee, Communist Party Lithuania. 1940 Director, Lithuania Dept, of State Security.
