He resided in Elizabeth City County, Virginia. He was part of Sir William Berkeley"s courts-martial in 1676 to try the Bacon insurgents. He was a justice of the peace and a captain of horse in 1680.
Captain Armistead married Hannah Ellyson, daughter of Doctor Robert Ellyson, of James City County, Virginia.
