Anthony Barr, original name Morris Yaffe, was born on March 14, 1921, in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. He was a son of Isadore Yaffe and Pearl Yaffe, maiden name Brown.
Anthony Barr studied at Washington University in St. Louis, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in 1942.
Anthony Barr was an actor for two years in New York City, spent a year as stage manager of the Katherine Dunham Dancers, and then worked from 1947 to 1952 as an actor in Hollywood. A job as a stage manager for CBS-TV (Columbia Broadcasting System) led to his first directing work, for the television series Climax, which he later worked on as associate producer in the mid-1950s. Barr went on to work as a director and producer for ABC (American Broadcasting Company) and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer during the early 1960s. Then, in 1963, he was hired as a program executive for ABC-TV, becoming vice president of prime-time series in 1973. CBS hired him in 1976 to be their vice president of dramatic programs, and he helped produce such popular programs as Magnum PI. and Simon & Simon. He retired in 1987. Other than his television work, Barr was a highly regarded acting coach, founding the Film Actors Workshop in 1960. His acting advice is published in his only book, Acting for the Camera (1981).
Anthony Barr was a network executive for over 25 years. He pioneered the idea of using cameras to train actors in 1970 when the first portable video equipment became widely available. Anthony Barr was a well respected acting teacher. His book, "Acting For the Camera" is considered one of the best books on the art and craft of film acting.

Anthony Barr married Annette Barbara on February 24, 1944. They had three children: Susan Joyce, John Burton, David Paul.
David Barr-Yaffe has been in production sound in the television and motion picture industry for over 39 years. Starting as a utility sound technician, then boom operator and, in 1987, a production sound mixer. Prior to moving into the industry, he was a music mixer for such groups as Motley Crue and Van Halen in the late 70's. He also worked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer as the Production Sound Mixer.
With an extensive resume of mixing experience on motion pictures, television series, commercials and documentaries, as well as a certified Pro Tools engineer, Barr-Yaffe is one of the most versatile and experienced on-set mixers still active in the industry.
