He maintains active roles in the engineering, design, and product teams within Squarespace. Previously, he attended Hereford High School in rural Maryland. In April 2003, Casalena started writing the initial version of Squarespace from his dorm room in the University of Maryland.
Casalena launched Squarespace in January 2004.
The initial funding for Squarespace came in the form of $30,000 in seed funding from his father. In 2011, Anthony Casalena was named one of Crain"s New York"s Top Entrepreneurs of 2011.
In January 2013, Anthony Casalena was named one of America"s Most Promising Chief executive officers Under 35 by Forbes. In June 2014, Anthony Casalena was named one of Incorporated."s 35 Under 35 Coolest Entrepreneurs.
He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the website publishing platform Squarespace, which now employs more than 500 individuals across New York, Portland, and Dublin, Ireland. Soon after launching, Casalena won the 2004 University of Maryland Business Plan Competition, along with its $15,000 prize which served as additional capital for the company.
