Background
Born in 1906, he was the son of Eric Chaplin, 2nd Viscount Chaplin and late Honorary Gwladys Alice Gertrude Wilson, daughter of Charles Henry Wilson, 1st Baron Nunburnholme.

Education
He was educated at Radley College.
Career
In 1935 and 1936, he went on a zoological expedition to New Guinea. He studied musical composition in Paris with Nadia Boulanger between 1936 and 1939. In 1949 he succeeded his father as 3rd Viscount Chaplin.
They had two daughters, Miranda Amadea b.1956 and Christina Susanna b.1958.
Upon his death in 1981, the Viscountcy became extinct.

He was a member of the council of the Zoological Society of London and its secretary 1952–1955.
