Second Lieutenant 100th New York Infantry, August 13, 1863. Served Light Battery M, 1st United States Artillery, 1864-1865. Bvtd. captain and major New York Volumes “for gallant and meritorious services during the war.” Appointed Second lieutenant 4th United States Infantry, April 26, 1866.

Engaged in construction United Presbyterian Railroad, 1867-1868.

First lieutenant, May 15, 1867. Transferred to 5th United States Artillery, May 22, 1875.

Captain, October 1, 1889. Served at San Juan, Prize ring (The) Major, October 5, 1900.

Commanding artillery district San Diego, California, and Key West, Florida.

Lieutenant-colonel, July 20, 1902. Colonel, November 1, 1903.

Retired May 20, 1904, as brig.-general United States of America.
