Vogdes, Anthony Wayne was born on April 23, 1843 in West Point, New York, United States. Son of General Israel (United States of America) and G.W. (Berard) V.

Career

Second Lieutenant 100th New York Infantry, August 13, 1863. Served Light Battery M, 1st United States Artillery, 1864-1865. Bvtd. captain and major New York Vols.

“for gallant and meritorious services during the war.” Appointed Second lieutenant 4th United States Infantry, April 26, 1866. Engaged in construction U.P. R.R., 1867-1868. First lieutenant, May 15, 1867.

Transferred to 5th United States Artillery, May 22, 1875. Captain, October 1, 1889. Served at San Juan, P.R.

Major, October 5, 1900. Commanding artillery district San Diego, California, and Key West, Florida. Lieutenant-colonel, July 20, 1902.

Colonel, November 1, 1903. Retired May 20, 1904, as brig.-general United States of America.
