He graduated from the law faculty of Kharkov University (1847).
From 1851 he lived in St. Petersburg. Librarian of the Imperial Public Library (1857-1869), where he was primarily engaged in Polish books. Professor of Russian and universal history of the Roman Catholic Theological Academy (December 1861). Scientifically, he paid special attention to studying the life and work of Metropolitan Eugene (Bolkhovitinov).
He was often on business trips as a library book collector. In the summer and in December of 1868, he came to Voronezh, gave public lectures on Metropolitan Eugenia and State Chancellor N.P. Rumyantsev.
