Joined group of writers headed by I. Ya. Franko; 1898 first work published. Taught in Galicia; 1917-1920 influenced by Ukraine bourgeois nationalists.
Minister of Education of Ukraine People's Republic. 1919 emigrated to Austria. Helped found movement to reunite Western Ukraine with Soviet L^kr.
Wrote novels and novelettes about events in Ukraine between 1918 and 1920. 1929-1932 ed, L’vov journal Novi shlyakhy, 1933 ed, journal Kritika-, subjected to reprisals for defending socialist system in Ukraine. 1932-1933 in Polish prison.
1934 moved to Soviet Ukraine. Exposed ideology of bourgeois nationalism in journalistic articles and fervently propagated Soviet system. Arrested by State Security organs.
