In 1790 Benelli was the first tenor at San Carlo Theatre in Naples; in 1798 - in London; in 1801-1822 at Dresden, when his voice failed. Then he was a teacher of singing at the Royal Theatre School in Berlin. In 1829 Benelli dismissed on account of a bitter and unjust attack on his benefactor Spontini.
