Aoyama Koemon was born in 1600.
Was engaged in the chinaware business in Kyoto when Kakiemon invented his Akae pottery, which later won great fame. It is said, according to a legend, that Kyube-e Chawanya revealed Kakiemon's secret to Koemon, who in turn passed on the technique to a rival manufactuer named Ninsei Nonomura, who immediately began flooding the market with his produce. When Kyube-e heard of this betrayal he went mad. This story is told in the Wankyii Monogatari.
