Apollon Nikiforovich graduated from Petersburg 1st Cadet Corps (1808). From 1811 he served in the Life Guards Regiment of Finland.
Apollon Nikiforovich took part in the Patriotic War of 1812 and Foreign campaigns of 1813 and 1814, was wounded in the battles of Borodino and Leipzig. During the Polish-Russian War in 1830-1831 Marin took the post of commander-in-chief of the troops and the civil part of Lepel city. Organised a school for peasant boys in Podgorny village.
Apollon Nikiforovich was an enterprising, courageous and resourceful man.
