Giiler passed his entrance exams to the Istanbul Drama School in 1948 and Istanbul University's Faculty of Economy in 1951.
Following military service, Giiler worked for Hayat magazine until 1961 as their chief photographer. He also contributed to American Heritage's Horizon magazine and books. Then he became a Near East photo correspondent for Life, and later for Paris-Match and Der Stern. For several years he worked as an assistant cameraman in several Turkish film studios. He began his journalism career with the daily Yeni Istanbul in 1950.
Giiler is a member of the Federation of International Journalism, the Turkish Journalist Syndicate, and the Turkish Journalists Association.
