1929 graduated composition class, Moscow Music Tcchnicum. 1934 graduated Moscow Conservatory.


Professor, Moscow Conservatory and Gnesin Pedagogical Music Institute, since 1951. Honorary Art. Worker of Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic since 1938 and Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic since 1944. Popular Artist Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, since 1947, of USSR since 1954 and of Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic since 1955.

Secretary, USSR Union of Composers. Board member, Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic and Armenian Union of Composers. 1937 Deputy Chairman, Moscow Union of Composers.

1939-1948 Deputy Chairman, Organization Committee, USSR Union of Composers. 1950-1951 conducted own works in concerts in USSR and abroad. Has frequently given concerts in Italy, England, Finland, Iceland, Sweden, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia and Latin America.
