Studied at High School and Collegiate Institution of the County. Owned large Flouring Mills at Chatham, Ontario.
Represented Kent County in the House of Commons, 18S7-1900. Chairman of the Banking and Commerce Committee. Sold out in Chatham, 1892, and moved to West Toronto where he built the large Queen City Flouring Mills.
Elected as Member for West York, 1901 and 1907.
Chairman of the Railway and Transportation Committee. Called to the Senate, 1907.
President Central Railway Company of Canada, Campbell Milling Company of Canada and Grand and Construction Company of Ontario. Presbyterian.
