Archibald Johnston

Johnston, Archibald was born on May 30, 1865 in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of Joseph and Martha E. (Stroman) Johnston.

Education

Mechanical Engineering, Lehigh University, 1889.

Career

Entered employ Bethlehem Steel Company, physical testing department, 1889. Later in charge erection and operation gun forging plant, same company (the first to be established in America). Took charge of erection, and later superintendent of armor plate department (also first to be built in America).

Assistant general superintendent, later general superintendent, and from 1908 vice president Bethlehem Steel Company, retired, 1927. First mayor City of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, 1917-1921. Trustee Moravian College and Theological Seminary, Bethlehem.
