McDonnell, Archie Joseph was born on June 3, 1936 in New York City. Son of Patrick and Margaret (O'Reilly) McDonnell.


Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Manhattan College, 1958; Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Pennsylvania State University, 1960; Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering, Pennsylvania State University, 1963.


Professor, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, 1963-1996; assistant director, Water Resources Research Center, Pennsylvania State University, 1969-1982; director, Institute for Research on Land and Water Resources, Pennsylvania State University, 1982-1986; director, Environmental Resources Research Institute, Pennsylvania State University, since 1986. Board directors Pennsylvania Environmental Council, 1989-1992, National Association State Universities & LandGrant Colls., 1990-1992, chairman water resources committee, 1985-1991. Member research & modeling subcommittee Environmental Protection Agency Chesapeake Bay Program, 1984-1986, science & technical advising committee, since 1984, Executive Committee, 1988-1992.
