Arndís studied at the Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík, took a Bachelor in literature at the University of Iceland, and an Master of Arts in creative writing at Goldsmiths, University of London.

She is the head of the ancient and popular culture departments of the Kópavogur Public Library. She has been on the board of IBBY á Íslandi since 2008, and its president since at least 2011.
