Schlaet, with Joseph South. Cullinan, co-founded Texaco Incorporated in 1902. Schlaet was an investor from New York who worked for H.P. Lapham and Company, managing that company"s petroleum interests. Naturally conservative, he was nevertheless impressed with Cullinan"s plans, and helped him to gain capital to start the new venture.
