Background
Valenzuela was born in Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico and was raised in Colonia Dublán, one of the Mormon colonies in Mexico.

As a young man, Valenzuela served as a full-time church missionary in the Mexico Veracruz Mission. After his mission, he moved to Mexico City, where he met Silvia Pilar De Porras.They married in the Mesa Arizona Temple in 1982. Valenzuela holds a bachelor"s degree from Mexico City"s University of Accounting and Administration Studies.
He spent his career working as an executive for several different multi-national corporations.
Since August 2013, he has served as a counselor in the presidency of the church"s Mexico Area.
Membership
He is a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy. He became a general authority and a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy in April 2013.
