He is also the current manager of Apolonia Fier in Albanian First Division. Mërgjyshi has only one cap with Albania. He played his first and only match with Red and Blacks on 24 April 1996 against the newest national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina, playing full-90 minutes in a goalless draw.
In January 2015, Mërgjyshi was appointed as manager of struggling Apolonia Fier with the only goal to avoid the team"s relegation in Albanian First Division.
