Dawson, Arthur was born on March 9, 1858 in Crewe, England. Son of Review John Godfrey and Anna (Kent) Dawson.

Education

Bachelor of Arts, Saint Saviour’s College. Studied art at South. Kensington School (medalist). Pupil of David Law and William Morris.

Career

Came to America, 1887. Naturalized United States citizen. Studio in Chicago, 10 years removed to New York, 1898.

A founder of Chicago Society of Artists.

Was chairman advisory committee Municipal Art Society, Chicago. Had charge restoration of pictures belonging to Public Library, New York, and United States Military Academy (official portrait painter of latter).

Art critic. Works, 1921, portraits of John Barton Payne, Generals Tillman, Barry, Biddle, and McArthur.

East. H. Harriman, Doctor Henry L. Smith of Washington and Lee University, Doctor George H. Denny of University of Alabama.
