Entered army, 1857; served in Cape and Zulu Wars, 1877-1878-1879. Brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel and Companion of the Bath. Extra Aide-de-camp to H. R.H. the Commander-in-Chief, 1887-1892.

Colonel Commandant R.A, 1906. Decorated for service in the field Retirea from Royal Artillery.
