Arthur James Trory was born on May 4, 1879, in Lyons, Ohio, United States.
In 1898 Arthur Trory completed a course of study in Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University.
In 1901 Arthur Trory opened a bakery store next to F.W. Trory Drug Store. In 1902 he apprenticed employment for J. B. Hurst, Cleveland. In 1904 Arthur Trory was hired by Lamparter Druggists, Akron. In 1924 he formed a partnership with Charlie Scott in Grocery and Meat Market on North Mantua Street, Kent, at the foot of Crain Avenue Bridge.
Trory's work ranged from tintypes to albumen prints and blueprints, and later to color and Polaroid. He focused on the local side of life - family and friends. His style ranged from photojournalism to genre realist to mood.
Arthur Trory married Mabel L. Kelso, youngest daughter of Elias S. and Margaret Mackey Kelso of Kent on August 24, 1905. In 1918 - Birth of Elizabeth Jeanne, his only child, in March.
