Served Relief of Chitral, 1895, in command of Maxim gun section (medal with clasp). Tirah campaign, 1897-1899S, as Aide-de-camp to the G.O.C. 1st Brigade (2 clasps). Boer War, 1899-1902, first with the Mounted Infantry and afterwards as Brigade Major of the Irish Brigade, and subsequently as Deputy-Assistant-Adjutant-General (twice wounded, despatches, Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, medal with 7 clasps, King’s medal with 2 clasps).
British Military Attach^ with the Japanese Army, Manchuria, 1905. Received from His (or Her) Majesty the Mikado the 4th class of the Order of the Sacred Treasure and Japanese War Medal. Companion of the Distinguished Service Order 1900; East Surrey Regiment; Deputy-Assistant-Adjutant-General South China Command, Hong-Kong.
