GRANT, Arthur James was born on June 21, 1862 in Farlesthorpe, Lincolnshire. Son of Samuel and Hannah Grant.
He was educated at Boston Grammar School and King"s College, Cambridge where he graduated Bachelor in Classics in 1884.
He became a University Extension lecturer. He is buried at Street Chad"s Church, Far Headingley, Leeds. Academic Grant was appointed Professor of History at the Yorkshire College, Leeds, which became the University of Leeds in 1904.
Upon his retirement from the professorship in 1927 a drypoint portrait was executed by the artist Malcolm Osborne From 1930 to 1932 he was Professor of Modern History at the University of Egypt, Cairo.
