GRANT, Arthur James was born on June 21, 1862 in Farlesthorpe, Lincolnshire. Son of Samuel and Hannah Grant.
Studied at Boston Grammar School. King’s College Cambridge. Master of Arts.
After leaving college lectured for many years for the Cambridge University Extension Syndicate, becoming eventually stafF lecturer and chairman of the Lecturers’ Union. Appointed professor at the Yorkshire College, Leeds, 1896. Professor of History at the University, Leeds.
