First assistant Dudley Observatory (astronomy department Union U.) since 1893. Chief astronomer Department of Meridian Astronomy of Carnegie Institution, Washington, District of Columbia, 1907-1936, research associate, 1936-1939. Has specialized in meridian astronomy for many years.
Associated with Doctor Lewis Boss (in charge of Dudley Observatory) on positions and motions of the stars, until his death, 1912.
In charge of technical operations, at San Luis, Argentina, 1909-1911, making over 80,000 observations. Discovered that the personal equation of the observer and the atmospheric refraction are different north and south.
