Background

Lord, Arthur Russell was born on August 8, 1886 in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Son of Aaron and Catherine Elizabeth (Underhill) Lord.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Continuing education, University of Maine, 1907, C.E., 1911. Master of Science in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, University of Illinois, 1911., married Ruth Mitchell Burns, September 22, 1915.

Career

Began in employ of America Bridge Company, of New York, Brooklyn offices, 1906. Instructor in сivil engineering, University of Maine, 1907-1908, University of Illinois, 1908-1909. Research fellow, University of Illinois Engineer Experiment Station, 1909-1911.

Chief engineer Leonard Construction Company, at Chicago, 1911-1912. Consulting civil engineer since 1912. Formerly president Tait & Lord, Inc., structural building designers.

Became president Lord & Hollinger, Inc., 1925. Chief engineer Cook County Civil Works Administration, November 1933-March 1934. State administrator Work and Rehabilitation Division, Illinois Emergency Relief Commission, April 1934-July 1935.

Assistant state administrator Works Progress Administration for Illinois, 1935-1940. Assistant to director Board Yards and Docks, United States Navy, 1940-1945. Retired, October 1945.

Captain engineers, United States Army, August 1917-July 1918, major July 1918-May 1919.
