(Excerpt from Acadian Legends and Lyrics The vaulted cham...)
Excerpt from Acadian Legends and Lyrics The vaulted chambers of the poet's brain Are peopled by a restless throng who beat Bewildering music, sometimes low and sweet, Sometimes a loud, wild-resonant refrain. There glide soft-sheeted ghosts of long spent years, - Sweet, sensuous loves of youth that lived an hour, Hope's phantom forms, delicious dreams of power, When all the world was new, and later fears Entangled not the boy's swift-flying feet. Beneath the dim, unearthly arches hide Odors from far-off flowers, and there abide The mother-songs that childhood's ears first greet. (Good Form,â for there are not many arts so universal or s...)
Good Form,â for there are not many arts so universal or so necessary, and there are to-day too few accomplished letter-writers. Especially useful must a little volume like the present prove in schools where careful attention has to be given to this subject in its details. The frequent reference here made to English use, has seemed necessary to the author from the fact that in most things, and certainly in literature, the standards of the best English society are properly those that have always been followed by the best American society. A mong famous letter-writers have been Madame de Sevigne, Samuel Pepys, Arthur Wilson, Alexander Pope, Lord Chesterfield, Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, Lady Russell, Horace Walpole, Edward Gibbon, Hannah More, William Cowper, john A dams, and his wife, George Canning, Sydney Smith, Charles Lamb, Robert Southey, ohn Wilson, Miss Burney, the Countess of Blessington, Thomas de Quincey, Margaret Fuller, William M. Thackeray, and Mrs. Carlyle. (Typographical errors above are due to OCR software and don't occur in the book.) (This book was originally published prior to 1923, and rep...)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

(The history of Nova Scotia has a unique and varied intere...)
The history of Nova Scotia has a unique and varied interest, which likewise extends to the Church of England in this Province. On the Church in Nova Scotia, practically nothing has been written; a valuable sketch by the late Dr. Thomas B. A kins, long out of print, and a brief account of the early history of the Church in New Brunswick, by Mr. George Herbert Lee, are the only pub Hshed writings directly on the subject. In the United States there should be much interest in the Diocese of Nova Scotia, for that Diocese owes its existence to the Tories of the Revolution, who went in thousands from New York and Massachusetts to the Acadian Province by the Sea, and its first bishop was, at the outbreak of the war, the honored rector of the leading Church in the older Colonies.
