1898 graduate organ class, 1900 composition class, St. Petersburg Conservatory, where lie studied under N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov and A. K. Lyadov.
Director of and teacher at the Astrakhan’ Music School, 1904-1920. Professor at the Tallinn Conservatory, 1925-1943. After the war, retired from pedagogical work and devoted himself to full-time composing.
Mainly known for his choral works. Also author of an opera, cantatas, a vocal symphony, compositions for wind instruments, pieces for piano, and music for theatrical performances.
