National University of Cuyo and the Sorbonne.
Professor of the History of Argentine Thought and Culture, Universidad Nacional del Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina.
Roig was forced to leave his native Argentina for political reasons and lived in Ecuador for a number of years, where he was a significant force behind renewed interest in the historiography of Ecuadorean ideas. His works offer new theoretical and historiographical categories for the study of philosophy in Latin America as well as foundational and critical perspectives on the philosophy of liberation. Borrowing from Hegel, Roig believes that authentic philosophy involves affirmation of the self as valuable, together with historical consciousness and identification with one's cultural legacy.
