Career
He is close to the present Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. His father is Brijnandan Sharma, who represents Bihar Shikshak Sangh and he comes from the village of Maniyawan, 6 kilometres (37 mi) from Jehanabad. Along with Anand Mohan Singh and Akhlaq Ahmed, Kumar had been sentenced to death in 2007 for his alleged part in the lynching of a Dalit district magistrate.
The ruling in his case and that of Ahmed was overturned on appeal when it was determined that he had been present but not involved in the murder.
Singh"s sentence was reduced to life imprisonment. Kumar and a younger brother own Gyan Bharti, a chain of residential schools in Bihar.
