He coauthored Indiana"s Birthplace: A History of Harrison County, Indiana in 1966 and was a regular contributor the Indiana Magazine of History between 1950 and 1980.
He was an advocate of county historical societies and oversaw the creation of historical societies in several Indiana counties.
From 1955 to 1965 he taught high school history. Funk married Rosemary East. Springer on August 25, 1956.
They had two children, named Cynthia and Mark. Arville Funk died in 1990 and is buried in Corydon"s Cedar Hill cemetery.
