Aryeh Grabois was born on July 9, 1930 in Odessa, Ukraine. Son of Eliezer and Judith (Lorberblatt) Grabois. Moved to Israel in 1948.
Aryeh Grabois studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem between 1955 and 1960 (BA, MA) and at the University of Dijon in France (Ph.D).
Aryeh Grabois' academic career history counts with different positions in education. He worked in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as a Lecturer from 1963 to 1964, in the University of Haifa from 1963-1998. Grabois was Associate Professor of Medieval history in the University of Haifa in 1973-1976, then he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities between 1976 and 1978. In 1979-1980 he was a Visiting Professor in the University of California, Berkeley, US. In 1986 Aryeh was appointed the Dean of the Graduate School until 1991. Later he was invited to the University of Mainz, Germany for one year. In 1993 Grabois worked in the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton,US. He became Directeur de Recherche Associé of the French National Centre for Scientific Research in Paris in 1994. In 1998 Aryeh came back to the University of Haifa and became Professor Emeritus of Medieval History.
Aryeh Grabois was a member of the Historical Society of Israel, Israel Exploration Societ, Society of Antiquaires of France (foreign associate), Yad Ben Zwi.
He married Carmela Langleben on April 20, 1966. Has 1 child, Shirli Grabois.
