Cockrill, Ashley was born on November 8, 1872 in Little Rock, Arkansas, United States. Son of Sterling R. and Mary A. (Freeman) Cockrill.

Mother g.d. Chester Ashley. Little Rock University, 1885-1888. University of Virginia, 1889-1892.

Law department University of Arkansas, 1893-1894.

Career

Admitted to Arkansas bar, 1894, later to the United States District Court, United States Circuit Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of the United States. Practiced with father (chief justice Supreme Court of Ark), from 1896 until latter’s death, 1901. Then member Cockrill & Armistead.

City attorney, Little Rock, 1902-1906.

Member school board, 1909-1912.
