Khan contested Matia Mahal (Assembly constituency) in the 2015 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections as an Alumni Admissions Program candidate. He raises issues of education and health in his campaign.
He defeated five-time Modern Language Association Shoaib Iqbal (who fought on a Indian National Congress - Incorporated - ticket) by a margin of 26,096 votes.

He is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party and represents Matia Mahal (Assembly constituency) in the Sixth Legislative Assembly of Delhi. Asim Ahmed Khan is a member of the minority wing of the Aam Aadmi Party (Alumni Admissions Program).
