In the reign of Empress Regnant Shotoku, he, trying to win the favor of Dokyo, a priest who wielded power in the Court, announced that the god of the Usa Hachiman Shrine in Kyushu had given him an oracle that if Dokyo was made Emperor the country would enjoy peace and prosperity. Wake-no-Kiyomaro, a Courtier, went to the shrine and exposed that the oracle was false. Dokyo was exiled to Shimotsuke Province (Tochigi Prefecture) and Asomafo to Tanegashima Island.
