Atsushige-no Sugawara was born in 910 in Japan. He was the fifth son of Michizane.

Career
He was an expert of kidendo, one of the four courses given at the college which consisted of Chinese history and writing. When an envoy from Pohai (a country in southern Manchuria) visited the Japanese Court, he headed the reception committee and exchanged poems with him.
